How to manage the photo contest entries of your WordPress website

This article assumes you’ve downloaded and installed the following plugins to your WordPress website:

  • NextGEN Gallery: this plugin adds the ability to showcase image galleries throughout your website.
  • NextGEN Gallery Voting: this plugin adds the ability for users to vote on existing NextGEN Galleries and images. A few basic options give the ability to limit who can vote on what.
  • NextGEN Public Uploader: this plugin allows frontend image uploading for your users. All images uploaded by your visitors must be moderated before being displayed in your NextGEN Gallery.

This plugin adds the ability for users to vote on NextGEN Galleries and images. A few basic options give the ability to limit who can vote on what.

Once you’ve logged into the administrator area of your WordPress website, you should follow these next steps:

Step 1 — On the left-hand side menu, find and click the tab link entitled Public Uploader. On this page, you are given several different options which are associated with the public uploader tool you would like shown on the frontend of your website.

Step 2 — You must select the default gallery ID in order for this plugin to work. You can create a new gallery name (e.g. Photo Contests) from the Gallery > Add Gallery / Image page.

Step 3 — On the left-hand side menu, find and open the tab entitled Gallery. Now, select and click on the sub-menu called Manage Gallery.

Step 4 — Select and click on the gallery name associated with the ID chosen in the settings of the NextGEN Public Uploader. This will bring you to the page where you get to approve, modify and/or remove the photos that were submitted by your visitors to the photo contest.

Step 5 — All new images submitted to the photo contest gallery await the administrator’s approval to be published onto the website. To approve an image, you would simply need to uncheck the box under the column entitled exclude in the table located at the bottom of this page. You can also modify the title text and description of the image under the column entitled Alt & Title Text / Description.

That’s it!
